Analysis
The first main image takes up the whole poster and is of a man in a yellow jacket at sea on a homemade raft. The man in positioned in the centre of the poster which gives him a powerful position and gives him importance. This allows the viewer to understand that the movie will follow this character. The very true and natural light makes the man seem innocent and maybe means that he has nothing to hide and that in the story he will be blamed for something he didn't do. His gaze is set so he is looking outside the frame. This shows that he is on a mission and has an objective to complete. Furthermore the fact that the audience can’t see what he's looking towards creates enigma and makes the viewer want to go watch the movie to answer their questions. His bleak and angry face hint at the motifs of the movie and sets an uneasy feel into the audience. His yellow jacket is very similar to a regular sailors jacket but could also link to the movie ‘it’ and georgies jacket. This suggests to the audience that similar motifs and events may happen (the death or disappearance of people). Yellow connotes happiness, however this juxtaposes to the blood in the water. This may signify that the storyline has twists and turn in it. The black clothing connotes deceit and death, this coupled with the yellow jacket may represent that under a shell of happiness lays a darker secret that he man is hiding. The boat gives us insight into the character as it looks homemade, the audience can then imply that he is from a poor background. This helps the viewer establish a better relationship with the man. In the water he leaves a trail of blood. This shows that the movie will include death and hints that the genre will be a drama, which helps create an audience.
The title is in capitalised letters and a blue font. The capitalised letters help the movie title pop out and catch the viewers attention. The title is placed behind the man's head which gives a 3D effect to the poster, making it pop out more to the audience. ‘Peril’ mean to be in danger or at grreat risk. This help create suspense and is used to draw the viewer in. ‘Peril’ is placed in a darker colour then the rest of the title, maybe showing that people have died or are in danger and they are deep in the ocean. ‘For’ shows that he has set of on a mission in hopes of doing something for the people who have died. This helps establish the genre as a adventure as well.
The reviews and star ratings is a form of psychological marketing. The words from reviews are chosen to be impactful and represent recurring motif in the movie. This helps create and audience for the movie. Furthermore the award are shown and are used to market the movie as it makes the independant movie seem prestigious. This award in a film festival is great for independent films as many independent audience recognise them. It also is used to measure the potential audience that its worth their money to watch the movie
