Little Joe Analysis - Teaser Poster

Analysis of Little Joe

The main image is of 2 character standing in the middle of a patch of red flowers.  The characters are dressed in a light blue uniform similar to those worn by scientists. This allows the audience to identify the characters as scientist or researchers. Furthermore the bright white walls is similar to modern/futuristic architecture  which allow the audience to identify the genre as a sci/fi movie. This helps create an audience of science fiction lovers. The costumes are all light blue which makes them stand out from the rest poster. The two characters are facing away from each other which might represent a split between the characters relationship or a hidden secret that is kept from one another. The male has an expressionless face and has direct eye contact with the audience. This makes the viewer feel unsettles and implies that the movie may be a thriller or drama. The woman has a worried look on her face and is staring over her shoulder to the other character. This shows a sense of worry and fright and symbolises how the male character may become unstable. The mid shot allows for the audience to establish a relationship with the characters, however the bottom portion is still covered which implies there are secrets and that the characters may have a different side to them. The added lens blur added in post production allows for focus to be placed on the characters but also gives a sense of unknowing and mystery.

The setting shows what looks like a field of flowers. However it is in what looks like a laboratory. The viewer can see this and it creates enigma making the audience wonder why the plants are being experimented on. This makes them want to watch the movie to answer the questions. The flowers are blood red and surround the characters. This create the sense of impending dread. The flowers are very similar to the red poppy which symbolizes death and destruction. The red connotes death and blood but also could represent love. This may hint at a relationship between the male and female character which is torn apart by the effects of the flower. The flowers also make it look like a sea of blood which makes the viewer feel uneasy and presents the recurring motifs that the movie presents. The flowers also cover the bottom half of the characters. This may be used to symbolise that there are mysteries of secrets that the characters have to solve.

The movie doesn't subvert the normal movie conventions as there is only white characters. However some may say they do subvert movie normal conventions as the female presented is not oversexualised, does not fit into the typical ‘beautiful female’ and is seen to have a prestigious job on the same level as her male counterpart.

The title is a bold red title. The bold and capitalized letters juxtapose the word ‘little’. This may hint that the narrative will have a unforeseen event that disrupts the narratives equilibrium and needs solving. The red is also used to catch the viewer's eye as it stands out from the white background.

The reviews are added to allow the audience to identify the main motifs that will occur in the film such as Dread and Psychodrama. This helps create an audience of people that love these genres. Furthermore the reviews give the viewer more confidence to go watch the movie and is used as a marketing strategy.

The absence of any stars / high budget actors reflect the independent nature and low budget of the movie. At the bottom of the poster can be seen the multiple companies that had to work together as without a conglomerate or horizontal integration production companies have to work together with exhibitors and distributors.

The addition of movie awards  allow the audience to recognise the movie as being of good quality. It is also a type of psychological marketing and impells the audience to watch the movie.
